Critical Reminders for 2025

Several important changes affect how you'll file your 2025 return. Here's what you need to know.

Direct Deposit Required

No more paper checks. The IRS is not issuing paper refund checks for 2025. You'll need to provide your bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit of any refunds.

Make sure you have your bank routing number and account number ready when you submit your documents. If you're unsure where to find this information, check the bottom of a personal check or contact your bank directly.

State Tax Differences: Illinois & Indiana

Illinois will continue to tax tip income even though federal law has changed under the OBBBA. This creates a filing complexity where tips are exempt federally but taxable at the state level.

Even though federal law changed regarding tip income under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, Illinois has not adopted this change. Indiana follows the Internal Revenue Code as of January 1, 2023, meaning it also has not adopted the OBBBA provisions.

Issue Illinois Indiana
Federal Tip Exemption Does NOT Apply Does NOT Apply
OBBBA Adoption Partial Not Adopted
IRC Reference Date Current Year January 1, 2023
Illinois Taxpayers: Illinois will continue to tax tip income even though federal law has changed under the OBBBA. Be prepared for this difference when filing your state return.

Additional Important Reminders

Digital Assets: If you bought, sold, traded, or received cryptocurrency or other digital assets in 2025, you must report these transactions. The IRS treats digital assets as property subject to capital gains tax.
Quarterly Estimated Payments: Made estimated tax payments in 2025? Be sure to provide documentation so we can properly credit these on your return.
Energy Credits Available: Purchased energy-efficient items like air conditioners, water heaters, windows, or doors? You may qualify for tax credits.

2025 Fee Schedule

Base fees include federal return and one state return. If you need to file in multiple states (Illinois and Indiana, for example), there's a $60 additional state fee.

Service Fee
Returning Client Base Fee (including one state) $400
Base Fee for Seniors 65 and Older (including one state) $325
